My name is Don Tierney and my passion is teaching others to play the piano, from young children to the elderly, from beginners to advanced pianists. Knowing how to play the piano well is something you will have and enjoy for the rest of your life.

My Experience
I am a fully qualified piano instructor with 25 years of teaching experience, accredited by the NSW Conservatorium of Music, and member of The Music Teachers Association of NSW.

Location
I teach in my studio at Rodd Point in Sydney's Inner West which is less than 15 minutes from the CBD. The surrounding areas include Five Dock, Drummoyne, Haberfield, Leichhardt, Rozelle, Balmain, etc.

Piano Lesson Fees
My main reason for teaching others to play the piano is my passion for piano and my love of music. I believe that piano lessons should be available to anybody who is interested and as such I keep my fees below many other Sydney instructors.

My Teaching Methodology
The main word to explain my teaching method is 'Enjoyment'! I have found that if a student really enjoys playing the piano from the start, they will learn much faster and improve much more than somebody who doesn't enjoy it.

With this in mind, I make sure my students enjoy the learning process. I am patient, thorough, and have a very flexible approach to learning. It's up to you how often you practice and if you want to do exams or not. The goal is have fun and learn without feeling pressured.

Types of music
You're the one playing, so I leave it up to you! You can decide the type of music you want to play, whether it is classical, jazz, blues, or more modern pieces such as movie themes or your favourite bands. Some people also prefer religious hymns, church and gospel music. Personally I prefer the 'masters' (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, etc.) and I highly recommend their music if you don't have any preferences.

Apart from teaching piano, I also teach electronic keyboard, which is especially popular with the younger generation!
